Pretty sure I’ve mentioned before that this house we live in is 40+ years old. It’s had 40+ years of living in and is full of laughter and lovely memories…and things that need to be updated, sorted, repaired or replaced. There’s a fine line between helping with that and making Mom and Dad feel like everything here is trash and I’m just “taking it all out.” So I’ve tried hard to go slowly and respectfully.
One of the places we’ve started is on our bathroom. I was planning to paint it before we even got here. It’s blue and has been blue since time began. Everything is blue–the walls, the ceiling, the dresser, and the plastic flowers in the 1970’s metal cup on the counter. Blue.
But when I started sanding the rough spots and wiping down the walls to paint we discovered some fishy things–the walls were peeling and damp. Not good. Yadda yadda yadda, Dad’s shower upstairs has been replaced, so has ours, we have new walls and new flooring and we’re almost done. Which finally brings me to the question I wanted to ask…
When you walk into the bathroom you’re facing the side of the shower–just a big blank wall. I’m thinking it’s the perfect spot to paint a cool quote on the wall. But I’m having a hard time deciding what the quote should be. Since this is not my house, since I am thinking about resale and what someone else might want it to say too, I’m trying not to do anything too crazy custom-to-us. Right now here are the two things I’m thinking about:
1. “As long as you are here with me, this will feel like home.”
2. “Live simply. Dream big. Be grateful. Give love. Laugh lots.”
But I’d love to hear what you think. Do you have a favorite quote or verse that would be perfect? Some clever rhyme? Some literary reference? I’m just not sure what I want and would love if you would chime in. So lay ’em on me.
